In November 2020, Emesent partner Dwyka Mining Services was contracted to assess the geometry and volume of a cavity that was exposed in a client’s open pit, following surface blasting. The void posed a significant safety risk to personnel working in the area, and to equipment.
An attempt to survey the cavity using a conventional drone-mounted LiDAR was unsuccessful because it lost GPS access.
Dwyka Mining Services scanned the void in a single 5-minute Hovermap flight and delivered high resolution data and dimensions of the void to the client, within two hours of arriving on site.
